Seismic testing has been APPROVED off the coast of Plett all the way to PE/Gqeberha. It is planned to start in January 2024 causing sound blasts, every few seconds, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for 5 months. The blasts can be heard for thousands of kilometres with the ability to cause whales stop singing, fish to go deaf and plankton to die. The Dept of Mineral Resources and Energy has approved the application and it will be executed by CGG (UK based).
The court case against Shell for the same kind of seismic testing was won and stopped off the Wild Coast, now it’s been approved on the South Coast covering over 12 000 square kilometres and will go through whale migratory routes!!
