A group of people in Thembalethu, including volunteers, went for a week cleaning the streets in their local community, from 17 to 23 August. The deputy Mayor Charlotte Clarke joined the project. Carke said, “This is what we want to see – locals helping the municipality to keep our environment clean. With cooperation from the community we can achieve great things.”
Lolim Radio Marketing Director, Theo Johns, who is part of the Thembalethu internet radio (Lolim) that pioneered the project, said the operation will run on a regular basis. “We hope to inspire young and old to make it their personal duty to keep their neighbourhood clean. We want to teach residents that environmental pollution impairs the environment and put lives at risk,” said Theo Johns.
